"Geotagging the Tourists" via New York Magazine

New York Magazine posted an interesting article a couple of days ago called "Geotagging the Tourists."

According to the article, the researcher "plotted on a map of New York every single geotagged photograph uploaded to the two photo-sharing sites over the past year. Anyone who snapped pics here for less than 30 days in a row, he reasoned, is most likely a tourist."

Past trip memories

I've been lucky enough to have visited NY so many times that I've now lost count of my trips. I was on a friend's Facebook page flipping through her photo albums and came across a few pictures of one of our trips together and thought I'd share. This was one of my many 3-day trips to the city, arriving on a Friday and coming home on Sunday evening, both ways via Megabus and lodging at a Jazz Hostel.

Our hostel was only a few stops away on the subway from "Strawberry Fields," the memorial to John Lennon, located at Central Park West and 72nd Street.

Our trip was in November, so many Christmas and winter decorations were already going up. Above is Columbus Circle, below is Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center.

It really is a great time of year to visit New York!

Not only are the Jazz Hostels my best personal experience when staying at a hostel in NYC (so far,) but they are great at keeping their website updated with current NYC tourist events and information for people interested in visiting or already planning a trip. So go book a bed for yourself and a friend and go enjoy NYC this November! It's a beautiful time of year! (And they're starting to put up Christmas decorations!! Go see those famous window displays and that huge tree in the Rockefeller Center!)

"All of Broadway"

 I saw this time lapse video today on Gothamist, and just had to share. This biker travels the entire 13 mile stretch of Broadway from the Bronx to Bowling Green (very southern tip of Manhattan.) Check it out; it's really awesome to see all of the landmarks he passes, including "That Guy," (personally my favorite part,) and it has a great soundtrack too.

Remember my pathetically-drawn map of the way the roads work in Manhattan? Virtually ride down it now...

Yay! Up and running!

I finally have this blog up to the point where I can start sharing it with travelers. Most of the information on these pages is gathered from different "sent" messages that I've sent to questioning friends over time, along with pieces of blog posts I had written for my personal blog. I've been going through old pictures trying to find some interesting ones to post, and collecting them all to be ready to throw them up on this site.

I'm also coming up with a blogging concept to help me continue to update. Right now I think a great idea would be to offer month-early information on why you should visit New York City next month. Example; I can start looking up events happening in January and start letting readers know what's going on and why they should go then, and also helping with itineraries so that readers can make the most of their trip. Super excited!
