Traditional Lodging

When you think about traveling, you usually think about staying at a hotel before you think of any other options. Typing "NYC Hotels" into Google will bring up hundreds of choices and can make narrowing one down a very difficult task. It may also be disheartening when you see their prices. Of course, you may be traveling on a budget for the sole purpose of spending a pretty penny on a posh New York hotel, to get the full high-priced-NY experience. For those travelers, expect to spend anywhere from $175 - $400 a night, with an average price of around $250 a night. Picking one is up to you... I have very few suggestions for you; just find one out of hundreds that is in your price range and close to attractions you're interested in. (Although, I do suggest staying somewhere other than in Times Square; staying anywhere south of Times Square will likely cost you less, will be less crowded, and will show you more of the "real" New York.) Below, two NYC hotels I have stayed in and highly suggest.

-Hotel Pennsylvania
-Holiday Inn Express

Boutique Hotels:
These hotels can be found throughout the city and offer much more charm and personalization than chain hotels owned by corporations. They may be a bit pricier, but probably worth it if you're willing to spend the extra money for a nice place. Here are a few choices in great, interesting neighborhoods:
-Casablanca Hotel
-Cooper Square Hotel
-The Larchmont Hotel
-Union Square Inn
-Hotel Chelsea
-The Gem Hotel
-Chelsea Savoy Hotel

Bed & Breakfasts:
Looking for a bed and breakfast in NYC is probably something you never thought of doing. I was shocked myself when I found such places online; it's just more common to think of a B&B as a cute cottage in a small town somewhere than it is to imagine staying in someone's townhome in the middle of the city. But, they do exist, and can be a more comfortable and personal alternative to a hotel. The owners are likely to give you suggestions and help you navigate to popular destinations, as well as give you an insider's opinion on the best local eateries and shops.

Try BedandBreakfast.com to search on your own, or check out some of these B&B's:
-The 1871 House
-The Inn on 23rd
-Country Inn the City
-Bed & Coffee
-Abingdon Guest House
